I don’t know about you, but I do not want to squander any of my precious moments on this earth ruminating about how I would feel better if there were “less of me.”
Jennifer Rollin, who identifies a ‘body activist’ is passionate about promoting body-positivity and the health at-every-size-movement.
She has it right: acceptance is key to happiness. Our stats-conscious culture promotes weigh-ins and tracking inches around the girth. Yet, from the sanctuary of the therapy room, I have never witnessed more than fleeting joy from my clients who lose weight. Peace, Joy, Contentment, Self-Esteem… all need to be conceptually unshackled from body-size.
Reducing food intake and increasing energy burning is sustainable when motivated by more systemic life goals are recruited. Feeling strong, agile and more able to participate in play are perpetually motivating goals.
