Psychotherapy for Children
Raising a child is no easy task, and in some cases it can be especially difficult.
Child therapy is not the same as psychotherapy for adults. While talking is the fundamental task of psychotherapy for adults, play is the medium used by children to communicate their emotional states. They express and resolve their emotional distress through movement, art and play.
Children face many unique challenges today. Pressures at school, problems at home, and dealing with peers can be overwhelming. Sometimes they feel misunderstood, alone, or confused. They may feel angry or sad. It is often challenging for children to express what is bothering them. Oftentimes they act out with behavioral problems or symptoms.
Some reasons for considering therapy for your child:
- You are noticing some things about your child that worry you, and you have found yourself asking—“Is my child ok, or is there something wrong with my child?”
- Something difficult has recently happened, and you want to make sure your child is able to cope and recover fully
- Something difficult is going to happen (a move, a divorce, a death, etc.), and you want to make sure your child is prepared
- You are parent or guardian struggling with parenting your unique child (or children)
