Six Ways To Get Back On Track In Your Relationship – Deborah Fox’s Blog – Published: March 22nd, 2017

In the therapy room, it’s natural to become immersed in the “why?”s of our own behaviors. We become deeply curious about the obstacles that are generated by our own self-protecting impulses, bad habits and replays of old, irrelevant stories. Sometimes these investigations are fruitful, even necessary. They can help with creating visceral sense of distance from past to present and can offer a foundation from which to build out new ways of being, coping and relating.

And sometimes they are an unnecessary distraction from the goal of improving life today. Deborah Fox’s blog post, Six Ways to Get Back on Track in Your Relationship, is a nice reminder of the relevance of staying in the here and now with a skills-based framework for maintaining and/or repairing connection with a chosen other.

It’s remarkable how every point she makes, we all already know: “We need to feed our relationships. “We need to repair from conflict.” “We need to touch each other”, etc. And yet, over the course of years, most couples lose that focus as it fades behind the stressors of life. Such a regrettable and avoidable loss!
